2000’s Death Race, starring David Carradine, in 1975
Narrative
A father and son working as security guards for an armored truck company encounter a team of would-be robbers on a bridge. They fall into a trap and must devise a plan to escape and survive. The only time Sly has played an antagonist was in 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, directed by Robert Rodriguez. Armored CITs rely heavily on GPS tracking systems to improve their safety.
That’s an understatement
If something goes wrong, whether it’s an accident, a holdup, or an unexpected stop, GPS data helps rescuers understand the situation and quickly reach the vehicle. James Broody (Jason Patrick) and his son Casey (Josh) Wiggins drive an old armored car in the Deep South. James is a former cop still haunted by the loss of his wife. They are attacked by a heist crew led by Rook (Sylvester Stallone) with the hot-headed Smoke (Dash Mihawk).
This movie is clearly made on the cheap
It’s even lower than I expected, which is interesting. It’s a big word in the obvious B-movie syndrome. Sly has a TV show and could probably do better than this movie. With the decline of cinema, this is one of those 90s thrillers that gets cut or moved to B-movies.
The plot is minimal
There are good actors, but the seams are visible. The story is a blueprint. The action has a few good moments, but a lot of awkwardness. I can write off the fake shootings for safety reasons.
The fake underwater work is just bad
They shouldn’t show it if they can’t film it. It should be a waiting sequence where the audience waits for the heads to appear. A big name in small movie syndrome really hit the nail on the head with this movie. I’ve seen a lot of worse B-movies.
